History of Delray Rocks:
The Delray Rocks Football Team was brought into existence in 1966 by our then Athletic Director, William "Bill" Smith. Bill recognized the need for a Youth Program.
Mr. Smith was a member of the airborne during his military career. He remembered the 503rd Airborne for their brave efforts during the retaking of the Island of Corregidor from the Japanese. At a loss of three-fourths of their men, the Squadron still managed to take back the Island of Corregidor. For their fight to the end fortitude, the squadron earned the nickname "The Rocks".
Smith thought the name fitting for this league. He thought that the coaching staff and community should instill in the minds of the youths that regardless of the odds, they could persevere.
Through the years we have tried to develop this philosophy - Success is not measured with the amount of wins and losses on the football field but with attitude, respect and the ability to succeed in life. Some of these children have gone on to become successful High School, College and Professional Athletes. We are proud of our youth, both players and cheerleaders. We honor our coaches who devote time well spent with the youth of our area.
